We welcome players from Unit 229 and Unit 185 to the Unit 142 family. Please take advantage of the many programs Unit 142 offers to promote bridge.
- The Free Play for Students program allows teachers to issue Free Play tickets to students with less than 10 points who are not already regularly playing at clubs.
- The Mentoring program which helps match mentors with mentees (less than 200 points) and reimburses their game fees for up to 10 mentoring sessions.
- The Unit offers programs to help clubs offer more for their players. The Club Support Funds program helps clubs offer more games. The Holiday Party program provides a $50 stipend for Club Managers to host a party for their players.
- The Unit's website shares information about clubs, games, lessons, and tournaments. Contact the webmaster to add your information.
The Unit Board is committed to promoting bridge, supporting our teachers and clubs, offering great tournaments, and providing a welcoming environment to learn and play bridge. Please contact the Board with your suggestions.

How many times I have heard a player state ‘we need to get into the schools’?
WELL, HERE IS OUR CHANCE!
We have been contacted by a group of Eastern suburb schools wanting Bridge to be taught to their Gifted Students. THEY CONTACTED US. And we have just the program to offer them, the Jump Start program already working with 23,000 students across the country. This inquiry was from multiple school districts, who already run competitions between their schools in other academic / mathematic pursuits.
WHO WANTS TO GET INVOLVED TO HELP?
The Pittsburgh Bridge Association needs volunteers to introduce our great game to a new generation. You will need to be cleared for contact with children, as some of us already are. The PBA will pay all relevant expenses for doing so. These sessions will occur during the school day so you’ll need to be available when the opportunity is offered. And we will also be teaching the teachers how to teach the game – using the proven Jump Start methods. Once started, the program is designed to be run by them.
Contact me if you would like to have some fun! Teachin’ the Kidzzz!!! Bill Holt 412-860-2794 burghboyb@gmail.com

The Pittsburgh Regional has long faced stiff Labor Day competition from the Atlanta, Dallas, and Santa Clara Regionals. As a result, even with the tremendous efforts of our tournament teams, participation has not reached the level our Regional deserves.
For comparison, the Cincinnati, San Antonio, and St. Louis Regionals regularly attract more than 700 tables. This year, the Pittsburgh Regional drew just 345 tables. Pittsburgh is a great city—our Regional should not be trailing so far behind.
To help the Regional reach its full potential, the Unit has requested financial and operational control of the tournament. A formal agreement with District 5 is in progress and will be presented to both the District 5 and Unit 142 Boards for approval.
With the guidance of Ron Franck, David and Maureen Loeb have agreed to co-chair the 2026 Pittsburgh Regional. Click the button below to learn about the Unit's plans to grow the Regional and promote bridge.

Reanette Frobouck Bringing World Class Play to Regionals
|
Tennis players and golfers rarely have the opportunity to play against the legends of their game. One of the attractions of playing in a Bridge Regional Tournament is the opportunity to meet and play against some of the world's best players. Regional organizers depend on Team Sponsors to bring top players to the tournaments. It is a thrill for players to meet the best players, teachers, and authors. World class players give the tournament organizer the opportunity to attract much needed publicity to our great game. Team Sponsors get many benefits from competing with their pro team:
- Thrill of competing at the top-level
- Tips to help them improve
- Help achieving their bridge goals
Pittsburgh is fortunate to have Grand Life Master Reanette Frobouck support our clubs during the Spring, Summer, and Fall. Reanette's teams make Regionals more compelling by giving local players the opportunity to meet and play against some of the best players in the world.
