Matchpoints, No One Vulnerable

Sitting South, Here is your hand:

S: J 6
H: 10 4
D: J 5 2
C: A K 10 8 6 2

And the Bidding is:

West North East South
  1H 2S (1) ????

(1) - Weak

Florine Walters: Double. It certainly could be quite correct to pass, but with my sixth club and nine high, my bid is a negative double.

Mary Carns: Double. This hand is no problem if you play negative free bids:  3C.  But, playing standard, I'm not good enough to show my suit directly.  So I make a negative double, and pass any rebid by partner, and hope its right.  (Except if pard bids 3C, after which I would cue bid).

Ann Zwack: Pass. On this hand my bid would be pass.

Judy Haffner: I pass because I don’t have enough to bid 3 clubs according to my system and hope that partner reopens with a double.

Jim Klein: I pass.  Why get into trouble making a forcing bid.  Maybe partner will reopen with a double.

Roni Gitchel: 3C - I'm not proud of it but like it better than a pass

Asim Ulke: 3C. It’s an overbid, but I think AK sixth could possible produce 6 tricks in no trump. Double could get me into trouble is partner bids three diamonds

Richard Finberg: 3C -  forcing 1 round, and an overbid (if you count points), but best chance to get to 3NT if you count tricks. If partner cannot bid 3NT, its only minus 50 per trick

Bill Holt: I overbid 3C.  I wish I was a Queen stronger, but preempts work.  I can tolerate Hearts, and if partner wants to take a shot at 3NT I have some nice cards for him, perhaps even a Spade trick depending on the lay of that suit and the lead.

Herb Sachs : Double. Too much to pass and not enough to make a free bid. Partner might bid 2NT and I would love that. Double is the least of all evils.
