Matchpoints, Both Vulnerable

Sitting South, Here is your hand:

S: K Q 6
H: 7 5 3
D: Q 4
C: A Q 10 8 4

And the Bidding is:

West North East South
      1C
1H 2D PASS ????

Florine Walters: 3D Three diamonds--two spades could get you in to trouble, and if you bid two hearts, partner may expect more in the way of a solid club suit or high cards.

Gail Carns: 3C now, I will bid 3S later

Mary Carns: 3C.  But I wish I were brave enough to bid 2S.  My money says that's what Richard Finberg is bidding.

PJ Prabhu: 3C. Least of the evils. At least you were kind enough to give me a fifth C rather than a fourth small H. I better make use of it.

Bruce Keidan: 2H. I'm not smart enough to bid my 3-card spade suit or support diamonds with Qx. My hand doesn't look like a 3C call. 2NT might be right, but partners tend not be amused when we reach 3NT off the first five heart tricks. So let's hear what partner thinks.

Jim Bachelder: This is easy...2H. If partner bids 2N, I will raise to game

Jim Klein: I am forced to bid 3 Clubs with this minny.  Next action by partner should clear things up a bit.  Hopefully he will be able to ask about 3NT  or other possible good contracts.

Roni Gitchel: 3C - My choice is 3D. I don't love either bid, but you don't get get to select your cards.

Asim Ulke : I can find no other call than to rebid clubs. So I bid 3C

Ernie Retetagos: 2 spades, but only if I bid in tempo. Anything else is a bigger distortion.

Bill Holt: 2S I'd put a club in with my spades and bid 2S. Partner's 2D call is forcing and 2S should not be taken as showing extras. Partner did not negative double so it's unlikely that you have a 4-3 Spade fit. More likely, partner has good values in the Reds and can bid 2NT after you show your spade cards. And your Q of D is a nice card for partner in 3NT.

Herb Sachs: 3C Three diamonds would be a forward going bid and I don’t want to excite partner. If partner bids anything else, I will support diamonds. 3C is the least of all bad bids. Over three diamonds, I will bid four.

Lou Joseph. I'm bidding 2S - flexible call showing spade stopper(s) but denying a heart card

Anne Zwack: Guess I'll bid 2H

Richard Katz: 3D. Partners bid of 2D is not forcing to game, yet still unlimited.
