You are South, IMPs, N-S Vulnerable.

Here is your hand:

S - A Q 7
H - 10 6
D - A Q T 5 3
C - Q 9 7

The Bidding is:
West North East South
    4H Pass
Pass DBL  Pass ???

What is your bid???

Mary Carns: 5D. I'm not imaginative enough to do anything else.

Bill Holt: Tough problem. Are we ahead or behind in the match?  I'm too good to stop in game here.  I bid 5H, raising partner's call to slam.

Roni Gitchel: 5D - I am tempted to bid 4S, but partner does not guarantee 4 or more spades. My best bet is to bid the suit that I do have.

Brian Ellis: Pass. I like the sure plus as opposed to the unknown. This is not going to be much of a loss unless we have a slam. If there is a slam, we cannot be sure of the right one.

Gail Carns: 5D  6 could make but that's why preempts work.

Richard Katz: 5D. Preempt makes it difficult to get to slam, which might make. I want to make certain I don’t miss a vulnerable game.

Jim Bachelder: 6D. I don't think its unreasonable to expect KJXX, X, KXXX, AKXX from partner for his 4 level T/O double.

Barb & Ken Bergman: 6D When I asked Ken for his answer, his reply was the same as mine.  I must write this date down.  We actually agreed on something. Our answer is 6D.  We think letting the double in wouldn't net us much. 5D is an underbid, so we'd bid 6D and cross our fingers that partner doesn't have 2 heart losers.  At this level, we don't have a bid to determine partner's heart situation.  4NT would tell us if partner doesn't have the Ace of hearts, but still doesn't clarify how many hearts he has.

Florine Walters: 5 Diamonds--the hand is too strong to leave in the double Vul. vs. NV. Depending on partner's hand as to his heart control we could be cold for six or seven

Ernie Retetagos: 6 Diamonds, should make more often than not

Herb Sachs: 6D

Asim Ulke: I bid 5D. 4S or 6D are other possible bids, but both are very speculative. There is no way to look for the best spot. Get a plus.

Bruce Keidan: 5D. Pass and 6D both could pay off, but I'm going to bid what's in front of my nose and take my chances.
