INTERNET POST

By Arlene Port

You are South,  Team Game (IMPS), None Vulnerable.

Here is your hand:

S - A K 2
H - Q J 6
D - A 9 8 7 6 5 4
C - VOID

The Bidding is:
SouthWestNorth East
1 DPASS1HPASS
???

What is your bid???

Bill Holt: I bid 2H.  3-piece support with a ruffing value should play well even on a 4-3 fit.  I have certain entries back to my 7-bagger.  The only other bid I would consider is 1S, but as Edgar Kaplan said:  "There is no bonus for finding a 2nd trump fit".  3H is too rich given my 3-piece support.

Ken Bergman: 2D ... I'm going to make the conservative bid of 2D.  If partner takes further action indicating more than 4 hearts, I would bid 4 hearts. If partner supports diamonds slam is a possibility.

Gail Carns: 3D overbid a distributional hand

Ernie Retetagos:  1S. I'd like to hear partner's natural rebid. I'm too strong to make a minimum rebid, and too awkward to jump in either red suit, so I'll make a waiting bid

Bruce Keidan: 3D. Partner doesn't need much to produce a slam, and this is the most likely route. Planning to bid 4H if he rebids 3NT

Trudy Cohn: 2D. I'm not strong enough for a jump in diamonds. (the suit is too weak) and I would not like to be playing game in hearts with only three card support if my partner bid with something like 4 to a 10. I'll wait to see if partner can bid again.

Florine Walters: 2H. If partner has 8 points, and a bad 6 card heart suit, they might not bid again if I bid 2 diamonds, but might make a try for game if I support. Obviously, the same argument holds true if they have 9 points and a 5 card heart suit. It is my opinion that 3 Diamonds does not hit the radar screen with the diamonds suit so weak..

PJ. Prabhu: 2D. An under bid, to be sure, with this good hand. I don't want to jump to 3D with the poor suit.

Roni Gitchel: 3D - I would like to support hearts immediately, but if partner makes any call, I can do so at that time.

Jim Bachelder: 2D Awkward hand. Don't like raising hearts and 3D on such a poor suit isn't appealing either. I'll bid just 2D for now and make up for the underbid later. If partner passes, we probably haven't missed much

Asim Ulke: I bid 1S.  Any of the 3D, 3H, 2H or 2D could work. But1S gives more flexibility for my next bid without committing the hand. Slam is possible with as little as KTxxxx of hearts and DK in partners hand yet 4H may not make opposite Kxxx of hearts and AQx of clubs. Over 2H from partner I shall bid 4H. Over 1NT I shall bid 3H. Over 2S I shall bid 3H etc

Mary Carns: 2D.  Seems like an underbid, but my diamonds aren't good enough for 3D.  I don't think the auction is going to end here, and eventually I'll probably be able to show more about my hand (including my heart support).

Jim Bossert: 1S. a little risky but i'd like to hear partners reaction. 3 diamonds is a little misleading.

Herb Sachs: 1S. This is my bid.

Richard Katz: 3H. I should have 4 to make this bid - I owe my partner a heart!

Jim Klein: I bid 2D! 7 card suits need a rebid. If partner can't take another bid I'll struggle with it
