INTERNET POST By Arlene Port You are South, Team Game (IMPS), None Vulnerable. Here is your hand:
* - Preemptive What is your bid??? Richard Katz: I bid 4 diamonds, over 4 hearts bid 4 spades. No accidents in 3 hearts X'd. Herb Sachs: Pass. I am not interested in a diamond lead and I don’t have the values for a 3 spade lead. Bill Holt: 4H. This Michaels shows Spades and another. Bid it before opener can. Counting points I don't want to bid. But this hand has a lot of playing strength that doesn't want to defend. Tells partner he has a place to play in either 4S or in 5m ... and if opener bids 5H perhaps my unpassed partner can hit that. I have one defensive trick. Gail Carns: 4D I am sure west will bid again since partner passed, east preempted and I only have 8pts. then I will bid 4S. Jim Klein: I pass. I'll let partner figure what to do. I can't guess. Bruce Keidan: 4H. Pass could be right, but doesn't rate to be. Double could be a disaster when partner converts to penalties and finds you with only one winner on defense. If partner thinks 4H is a transfer to spades, look for a new partner. Florine Walters: I take the plunge--4 HEARTS, and hope for the best! Partner is marked with some high cards., and hopefully we have a fit in either spades or diamonds. PJ. Prabhu: Pass. If I bid, pard will expect more high card values or better suits Roni Gitchel: 4H - I don't like it, but I don't like any other call better. Asim Ulke: Pass. Vul., at IMPs I am not in favor of saves. The hand could belong to us, but I am more likely to go for a number. My bid could also help the declarer with the play of the hand. I pass and hope that the board is a push. At matchpoints I would have bid 4H. Mary Carns: Pass. Remember that thing about not preempting over a preempt? Since pard didn't bid at the 1-level when he had a chance, this isn't our hand. If he has a good hand, he has hearts. Otherwise, I'm going to get (at least) 1 more chance. Ernie Retetagos: Pass. Tempting, but bidding could easily lead to a disaster. Trudy Cohn: Double. If partner has a spade fit, I am happy. If he bids 4 clubs, I can retreat to 4 diamonds
