INTERNET POST

By Arlene Port

You are South,  IMPS,  EW Vulnerable.

Here is your hand:

S - 10 9 8 7 5 3 2

H - 5 4 3

D - 6 4

C - J

The Bidding is:

South

West

North

East

---

---

4H

PASS

???

What do you bid?

Bill Holt: 6 Hearts.  West has a monster.  Partner is short in Spades, I am short in tricks, and the opponents have a certain game and a likely Vulnerable slam in 6 minor. I look to be down 500 in 6Hx. Perhaps partner can take a trick if we defend 7 of a minor.

Ernie Retetagos: Pass This is the call I usually make when I have nothing.  Bidding here will not be a long run winning imp strategy. Occasionally we will go plus on defense. To bid could cause a disaster.

Trudy Cohn: 6H My bid will be 6 hearts knowing that there is a strong two bid on my left. Hoping to disrupt their communication and take up some of the opponents bidding space.

Florine Walters: 6H - Six Hearts is an easy bid. The question is what does one do over seven of a minor?  If West is so bold and is willing to bid seven of a minor, I think I would be willing to let him play it there

Roni Atkins: Pass - Raising Hearts just gives E-W more info.

Lou Joseph: Pass.  I'm going to take a good hard look at my opponents' before I take any advance sacrifice. Being an ethical player, I will NOT stare at my hand, fidget, and then finally bid (or pass) to make the opponents' think I have something. And I will sacrifice at 6 when they get there, but for now I think I'm going to pass in tempo.

Richard Katz: 5H it is fairly obvious that the opponents can make 5 of a minor and maybe 6 so I bid 5 hearts pre emptive as a good non vul sac and let them guess

Herb Sachs: 6H. I may even have to bid 7 later.

Richard Finberg: 6H. Partner should be short in S and my hand should produce 4-5 tricks with slightest help/length from partner.   While I might be down 1100 vs. no game, could also be (1) -300 vs. vul. game,

Bruce Keidan: Pass. I'm sure they can make a slam, but I'm not sure they can bid it.

Jim Bachelder: Pass What’s there to think about? I can’t pass fast enough!! I don’t know whether or not we’re playing NAMYATS, But if we aren’t, partner could have as little as: :  X, AKQXXXXX, XX, XX and be going down. I we are playing NAMYATS, partner could have  9 1/2 TRICKS SUCH AS:  X, AKQJTXXXX, AX, KX AND STILL NOT BE ABLE TO MAKE A SLAM NEXT TO MY TRASH. PASS!, PASS!, PASS!

Asim Ulke: Pass. If you are expecting me to advance the preempt, sorry it is not my style.
