Subject:  Revised Stipend Fund Criteria for Clubs Policy Effective July 1, 2025
Date: May 31, 2025

After the Covid Lockdown, the PBA established a Club Support Fund of $20 per sanctioned session to help clubs offering face-to-face games for Unit members.  The PBA Board is pleased that 12 to 13 sanctioned duplicate games are available to players on a weekly basis.  Because recruiting new players is essential to the future of bridge, the Board is focusing on bridge classes, supervised play, and limited games.  Currently, over 100 prospective players are taking beginning bridge lessons, and supervised play is available at Glenshaw and the Galleria.  The Board is concerned that there is only one limited game which reliably meets on a weekly basis.  To address this potential bottleneck, the Board voted to revise the Club Support Funds to incentivize clubs to hold limited games.

The following changes take effect on July 1st.

  • The Club Support payment for a limited game is $12 per session held.  This applies to any sanctioned game with an upper limit which is at or below 750 masterpoints.
  • The Club Support payment for a sanctioned open game is $12 per session held.   Clubs will continue to claim their Support Funds at the end of the quarter via an email to Mike Pascal at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..  A club may report 2 games in a day if they held an open game and a limited game (upper limit of 750 or less), or held 2 limited games with different ceilings - with at least one game having an upper limit of 750 or less.

To receive these funds, you must email our unit treasurer, Mike Pascal, at the end of each quarter with the number of games played at each of your sessions and the total amount requested.  Canceled games do not count. Your email must also include your full name as it should appear on the check, phone number and mailing address. Emails should be sent within 30 days of the end of each quarter.

Club Managers wishing to reach out to teachers for help attracting players to limited games can find a list of classes and supervised play sessions on Unit's Bridge Classes and Lessons page.

Thank you with continued luck and success,
- Unit 142 Board
